I found this odd bit of shell on Edisto Island beach. It grabbed my attention by its odd shape and the placement of the three holes worn through the surface of what had likely once been an oyster shell.

I picked it up initially just because it looked interesting, but the more I looked at it, the more I saw other things. There’s a face in there for sure.  And a resemblance to the contorted figure in Edvard Munch’s The Scream.

But the more I looked, I also the character Groot from The Guardians of the Galaxy (the movie version moreso than the comic book character):
