But the reason for the trip was what made it most memorable. A week before the wedding my husband and I and two daughters left the US, flying to Edinburgh, Scotland. We were only there a few days, but we managed to pack a lot into it, visiting Edinburgh Castle, the Scottish National Arm Museum, the Royal Mile and Calton Hill.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_776\" style=\"width: 236px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-776\" class=\"size-full wp-image-776\" alt=\"Edinburgh Castle\" src=\"https:\/\/kmccullough.com\/kblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Edinburgh_Castle.jpg\" width=\"226\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-776\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Edinburgh Castle<\/p><\/div>\n<p>From there we caught a train to London and spent a few days there, taking in the Tower of London (of course!), the Thames tour, Greenwich, Westminster and the Parliament building, the British Museum and some lovely shopping.<\/p>\n<p>Another journey by train deposited us in the town of Hastings, where we stayed at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewhiterockhotel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The White Rock Hotel <\/a>a lovely\u00a0venue right on the waterfront (run by my son&#8217;s bride&#8217;s uncle).\u00a0The wedding itself was in\u00a0the town of\u00a0Saltwood in Kent at a picturesque 12th century Norman church.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_780\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-780\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-780\" alt=\"Saltwood Church\" src=\"https:\/\/kmccullough.com\/kblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/100_0080-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kmccullough.com\/kblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/100_0080-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kmccullough.com\/kblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/100_0080-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-780\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Saltwood Church<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Finally after the wedding,\u00a0our daughters had to return home, but we stayed on for a few more days and returned to London with friends. We walked over much of the city, saw Westminster Abbey,\u00a0Parliament, the British Museum of Art, and even got to tour Buckingham Palace.
