This week I offer a sneak peak from my romantic suspense novel, A QUESTION OF FIRE.\u00a0 You can read the first chapter and find buy links for it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I’m sharing a few paragraphs from the book that aren’t in the first chapter:<\/p>\n

Set up: Our hero and heroine are new acquaintances, meeting for lunch and realizing they have some differences in tastes.<\/em><\/p>\n

Lowell was quiet while the waitress delivered their plates. “I suppose I owe you the assistance,” he said when the girl had left. “Since it’s my client we’re trying to get off the hook.”\u00a0He picked up his sandwich, which seemed to consist mostly of lettuce and tomato, and took a bite. He noticed her staring at him.\u00a0“What’s the matter?”<\/p>\n

“What have you got on your sandwich?” she asked.<\/p>\n

“Lettuce, tomato, Provolone cheese, mayonnaise, and cucumber.\u00a0Why?”<\/p>\n

“Cucumber?”\u00a0Cathy had to repress a shiver. “Why aren’t you having a real sandwich?\u00a0You’re not on a diet, are you?”\u00a0Lowell was built pretty lean, but he might have to work to stay that way.<\/p>\n

“This is a real sandwich,” he said.<\/p>\n

“There’s no meat on it.\u00a0This is a real sandwich.”\u00a0Cathy held up her roast beef.<\/p>\n

He looked at it with distaste.\u00a0“That’s a pile of cholesterol between two pieces of limp styrofoam.”<\/p>\n

“At least it’s edible.\u00a0Human food.”\u00a0She pointed at his lunch. “That’s a salad on two pieces of burnt toast.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
