Every year for the past several, I’ve pulled out this poem, tweaked it, and added to it. I’ve finally finished it, but I doubt that will keep me from editing it a bit more next year.<\/p>\n

A Visit with the Vampire on Christmas Eve<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018Twas the night before Christmas and all through the hall
\nThe vampire prepared for his last night of all.
\nA hundred years gone and the urge to drink blood
\nHe\u2019d struggled against and so far withstood.
\nWith dawn\u2019s early light, his cursed life would end;
\nHis soul, however, he\u2019d maintain and defend.
\nWhen out on the porch there arose such a clatter,
\nHe trudged to the door to see what was the matter
\nWhen what to his wondering eyes should appear
\nBut a young woman shivering with cold and fear.
\nHer face it was pretty, her blood warm and sweet
\nTo him, she was temptation, from her head to her feet.
\nForced off the highway and lost on a back road,
\nWith her car in a ditch, she\u2019s alone alone in the cold
\nIgnoring his warning that his presence meant danger
\nCarol opted for shelter and passed time with the stranger.
\nMemories of Christmases long gone they traded,
\nGifts and feasts and treasures long faded,
\nAnd of the terrible night, a century ago,
\nWhen a vampire stole his life and his hope.
\nAs he suffered the death throes of blood-hunger pollution,
\nShe struggled to help him and find a solution.
\nWhen an enemy dastard showed up to gloat
\nAnd tries to make Carol a sacrificial goat,
\nShe\u2019s no willing victim and fights for her life
\nAnd to help Michael get through a long night of strife.
\nHe gives her a hint how his life might be won
\nAs he goes out to meet the final morning’s sun.
\nBut will she succeed in the difficult task?
\nOr bid him goodbye and rest in peace at last?
